AIMS Steering Committee Membership Procedures * Overview The AIMS Steering Committee consists of: a) Four (or less) members who have previously acted as AIMS organizer b) Three (or less) additional members c) A Steering Committee chair, who is member of the Steering Committee. * AIMS Organizers For each of the last four AIMS conferences, one of the organizers (who may have been the general or TPC chair) becomes member of the Steering Committee. If there are multiple organizers, it is up to the organizers to decide who will become the Steering Committee member. In case of disagreement, it is the (old) steering committee who decides who will join. Four years after having organized an AIMS conferences, the Steering Committee member will be replaced by the organizer of the current AIMS conference. * Additional Experts In addition to the AIMS organizers, three (or less) additional experts may be invited to join the Steering Committee. Invitation is by the chair of the existing Steering Committee, after agreement with the other Steering Committee members. This category of Steering Committee members is invited for a two year period, but this period may be extended twice at maximum (such expert may therefore serve for a maximum of six years). Experts will often come from the scientific sponsors of AIMS, such as the general / conference chair of a Network of Excellence and the IFIP WG6.6 chair. This is not a strict requirement, however. * Steering Committee Chair The AIMS Steering Committee chair is the oldest organizer (in general, this will be the TPC chair who served four events before). If that organizer does not accept, the next takes over. * End of Membership In general, organizers will stay four years in the Steering Committee, and experts stay two, four or six years. If an AIMS Steering Committee Member has not attended the AIMS conference for three (or more) consecutive years, he (or she) will no longer be part of the AIMS Steering Committee. * Steering Committee Meeting The Steering Committee meeting generally takes place in conjunction with the AIMS conference. If necessary, decisions (including selection of new experts and the election of the chair) can also be performed via email.
